Susan's Story
Susan Barton’s path to becoming a leader in dyslexia intervention began far from the classroom. For 20 years, she built a successful career in the computer industry.
Everything changed when she saw her nephew, Ben, struggle in school. By tenth grade, despite years of special education, Ben was reading at a second-grade level and spelling at a first-grade level. The school insisted nothing more could be done.
Susan refused to accept that. She left her tech career to research dyslexia full-time — learning multiple Orton-Gillingham-based methods, Lindamood-Bell systems, and gaining expertise in ADHD. She began tutoring students ages 6–17 and saw first-hand that the right methods could change lives.
Educating and Empowering Nationwide
In 1998, Susan founded Bright Solutions for Dyslexia, with one mission: educate parents, teachers, and schools about the causes, symptoms, and proven solutions for dyslexia.
